Copper coil (IUD)

For the first 3 months of Mirena coil, at ovulation time and period time I suffered massively with lower back pain on one side which spread into sever bloating which lasted for over a week at a time. I got so frightened there was something wrong that I ended up in A&e where they gave me scans, all clear, bloods, all clear. My husband noted the only change had been the coil. Even my doctor said she hadn’t heard that type of reaction but that it can take 3 months to settle. That was the third month and since then I have had no issues. Periods stopped immediately. It is working for me now but wanted to let people know this can happen as I googled so much to see if anyone else had had those issues. The coil is tricky.

Copper coil (IUD)

Very painful insertion followed by cramps and mild discomfort for about 12-24 hours. But after that, it's 5 years of contraceptive cover without having to remember anything (eg taking a pill at a certain time), without any negative side effects in my experience (eg no mood swings or acne or changes to sex drive or appetite), and with a stop to my periods in my case (which for me is a positive thing).

Copper coil (IUD)

My copper coil migrated and ended up embedded into my bowel. I only realised it wasn't in place when I fell pregnant. I had to have it surgically removed through key hole surgery once my daughter was born.
