I fell pregnant on the copper coil- I was told it wasn’t inserted properly and it had been sitting in my cervix

I love love love the copper coil, don't get me wrong. It is hormone free which was massively important to me and I don't have to remember to take anything. I just find the heavy periods very difficult to cope with, so you have to be prepared for that.

The only negative is that my periods are much longer than they used to be. I’ve had the copper IUD for nearly 2 years - prior to this (condoms only) my periods were about 4 days long, 5 max. Now, every month, my periods are 9 days. Longer than this on a few occasions. I have not had a shorter period than 9 days since having the IUD. However, they are very light for about 5-6 of these days, and moderate flow for the remainder of the period. But still slightly annoying! However, this is the only contraception I’d consider as I am so pleased it’s non-hormonal. No changes to my mood, weight, skin, sex drive, etc. No other symptoms or side effects aside from longer periods. Sex is hassle free and enjoyable.
