So far period have been very heavy and more painful than usual, but I’m hoping that this will begin to settle in the next few months. No breath through bleeding and causes no interruptions which is great.

Insertion was very painful and had strong cramps that needed strong painkillers for 48hours after. Discharge has also changed to be thicker and periods have been longer. Also experienced painful ovulating.

I had a great time using the copper coil. Had it for over 12 years and rate it so highly at preventing pregnancy. I only had one instance which I thought it might have ever been a possible pregnancy scare which was short lived. Heavy periods and period pain were a thing which were a side effect from the coil but I figured that was better than the side effects I had from the pill which were an extensive list. I would say that I had it from my late teens to early 30s and thought some of my pms symptoms were normal as that had always been that way. Any pain, pms, mood changes are worth investigation and may mean you need some help, although doctors aren’t usually keen to associate the copper coil and moods changes as it’s ‘non-hormonal’. After I had my coil changed I had serious PMS symptoms and mood changes which looking back was not normal. I would get a coil again with the knowledge I have now about balancing out my hormones with lifestyle changes and supplements. Also being aware of what my baseline normal symptoms are. I am happy with fertility awareness at the moment.
