After having a bad experience with the Nexplanon implant (very low mood) I decided to try the Jaydess coil as recommended by my doctor. Insertion is very painful as expected but the taking out is fine, I am currently coming to the end of my second coil so I'm swapping to the Mirena for a longer lifespan but I have loved this coil - I had some painful cramps for about 3 months at the beginning of the first coil but after about 6 months everything settled down. I've had no periods, no mood changes, no weight gain, my skin hasn't been great but it has improved recently and I wouldn't confidently say this was down to the coil anyway, more likely lifestyle choices.

I had the Jaydess coil fitted this morning (third one) i had a 12 month break as i came out of a long term relationship, prior to that i had two fitted, they last 3 years compared to the other longer ones but its still along time. Fitting was uncomfortable but i took pain killers before and the staff are always lovely, it also doesn't last long but for anyone who has had children its similar to a contraction and then its over, the pain isn't ongoing (or hasn't ever been for me) I chose the Jaydess because i have tried so many other pills and not gone on with them, this coil has a really low hormone dose its the equivalent to one progesterone only pill a week. Previously i have noticed that: Possible mood improvement, slight weight loss (although i do track food and train at the gym but weight loss felt easier) periods were much lighter and did regulate eventually, sometimes they would go on longer than others but nothing to write home about. Overall i think women have such a tough time trying to decide on contraception but this has been a great option for me (i appreciate we are all different) but its low hormone, smaller to fit and minimal side effects.
Very positive mood

Only hormonal contraception that hasn’t caused mental health issues ! I feel myself and my moods are actually better than when I had the copper IUD and my periods are way lighter. I have PCOS and I haven’t noticed an increase in dark excess hairs and I haven’t had any problems with acne but I have taken accutane in the past which often fixes acne permanently.
