For me possibly the best of the hormonal options I tried (Nuvaring & POP)...definitely in terms of comfort level (and for me the biggest pro is that I have 0 worry about getting pregnant and I can forget about the admin of contraception. When I was using condoms I was an anxious mess about getting pregnant...) but I am still on the fence and may have it removed. Insertion was awful (no painkiller offered) and I was almost completely out of action for 3 days after: pain, headaches, my uterus and ovaries wanted to basically run away and I could hardly walk my dog! Oh yes and quite hormonal as well. So be organised in case this is how your body reacts too. I believed the "most people find it uncomfortable but not painful" official line..must have been written by a man lol. It went way beyond uncomfortable for me. I started bleeding/spotting for about 2 months without stopping immidiately after insertion. It wasn't too worrying but rather annoying. Had to buy more black undies as kept ruining my lighter coloured ones! I had my first proper period 2 months in. I stopped ovulating and I miss my natural cycle and my juices and the libido that comes with it. That being said I do experience vaginal dryness to an extent. I put on about 2lbs (1kg) As only had it over 2.5 months, it's still early days and if things settle down with the spotting and I don't get more annoying side effects I may stay with it a bit longer as I find it very convenient.

I was nervous to start the coil. I wanted to go on a much lower hormonal contraceptive and the coil sounded ideal for me and my partner. Having the coil placed felt tense at first but I calmed myself down (lots of deep breaths) and was pleasantly surprised by how easy and quick this was. For me, it was a quick pinch and it was done. I did have quite uncomfortable stomach cramps after it was inserted but that was gone by the next day. I felt fine to go to the gym that evening but do not recommend it as I felt unwell after doing this. Since then I do exercise before the appointment and then have a very chill rest of my day. When friends ask, I suggest to not plan anything for the rest of the day and just focus on resting up. I have been very happy that I started the coil and have since moved on to another longer-term version. I have only had a few issues with the coil. The first is that the strings could be felt by my partner - he told me they poked him and obviously that isn't very nice when having sex. I had it cut down twice as it still continued to poke him. But this was fairly easy to sort.

I had the Jaydess coil fitted 2 months ago. I'd been hesitant to use hormonal contraception after past experience, but had super heavy bleeding for 3 weeks per month on the copper coil which left me with little choice. I opted for Jaydess for its low hormone count. For 1 week I didn't bleed, which was a relief after the copper coil, then the bleeding began. I've now bled constantly for 7 weeks and have to wear a pantyliner everyday. Generally the bleeding is not a lot but it's constantly there which has led me to struggle to enjoy or feel comfortable during sex. My partner and I have not engaged in oral sex since nor felt able to do anything adventurous. I've also had normal periods during this time when the bleeding has got heavier, and my breasts were extremely swollen and sore for the first month after the fitting. This coil has had such a negative effect on my sex life that it has truly defeated its own purpose! I'm now booking an appointment to try the Kyleena as a last ditch coil attempt - it may be that I need a slightly higher hormone level to stop the breakthrough bleeding. If that fails then it's down to Natural Cycles.
