I first started using Yasmin when i was almost 17, and mainly did it to improve my skin a bit. Initially my skin got so so much worse and it took about 3-4 months to fully clear up. On it my skin was the main improvement ; it really worked wonders for my skin. My body hair decreased and maybe got a bit lighter, my skin wasn’t as oily and my boobs grew a tiny bit. However after about 4 months of using it i started getting horrible anxiety. I was constantly stressing and crying to the point where people around me thought I was delusional. I also started getting horrible panic attacks, that sometimes would happen every day. I really felt like i was at my lowest point on this pill. Normal things like getting on a train would stress me out to the point where i fully avoided taking trains. I really felt like i was going psycho and all my friends and family couldn’t recognise me anymore!! I really felt like id lost my personality. I know it works for others but the psychological side effects i got from this pill whilst on it were not worth the skin benefits that came with it.

I got on the Yasmin pill because of PMDD. It has helped tremendously. I've been suffering with mood swings, anxiety attacks and very strong cramping for about 7-14 days before my period. After a consultation with Dr Mel from The Lowdown, I started taking the Yasmin pill back to back, without the 7-day placebo break. The first 6-8 weeks my moodiness was worse but I knew I had to wait it out. In that 6-8 week period since starting the pill I experienced a lot of side effects. Negative side effects included: moodiness, my breasts grew a lot and were painful, I had increased appetite (especially for sweet things), my sex drive was low. Positive effects included: my bacne & acne on my chest had completely disappeared within the first couple of weeks, I had less hair on my upper lip and legs, my tits looked amazing. 9 months down the line and I can say with certainty that getting on the Yasmin pill was the best thing I've ever done for my mental health (and I've been doing therapy and was on antidepressants for 3 years). I still get moody for 2 days just before the end of the pill pack but I know exactly which day it will be and I can manage it more easily. I do get thrush every 2 months more or less which sucks but I did used to get it every year any way so I'm probably more prone to it. I still get some tummy ache before the end of the pack and I spot irregularly (to remedy that the doctor recommended to take a break from the pill for 4-7 days every 3-4 packs but that does send my moods through the roof). I whole-heartedly recommend speaking to the doctors at The Lowdown and trying out Yasmin (or an equivalent brand) if you have strong PMS or PMDD symptoms.

I started the Yasmin pill when i was about 13/14 and I came off it about 6 months after starting it. I had absolutely awful side effects. It made me gain a lot of weight, my skin was awful and it completely changed my mood. I was suicidal and depressed and had mood swings. It made my blood pressure rise too. I also just generally felt unwell most of the time. After coming off the pill i felt 100 times better and ended up loosing all of the weight i had put on. This won’t necessarily be your experience as everyone is totally different but this is the worst pill I’ve been on, and I’ve been on a few!
