I've been using NuvaRing in the past and I was most content, so when getting a new long term partner now it was my first choice. I'm currently on my 4th ring. 1st month was messy due to prolonged bleeding, but now I'm not having any side effects except vaginal dryness, which became pretty prominent and has very negative impact on my sex life. Aside of that, I'm very happy with this method (cumulative 5 years of experience)

I went on the ring at 27 and used it for two years. At the beginning I had a lot of spotting which went away after a few months. Overall, this contraceptive heavily affected my mood and contributed to a serious depression. Only after talking to a friend I decided to stop taking it in order to see how I feel without - it was as if a heavy weight was lifted off my chest. I also have to mention during those two years I had extreme low sex drive and vaginal dryness. I find it very scary that mental health is not taken into consideration when prescribing hormones and gynecologists tend to ignore the topic.

Being on Nuvaring made me want to kill myself, literally. I’m in my mid/late twenties and in a more serious relationship I decided to try this as it is easier with application than daily pill. Shortly after going on Nuvaring I started feeling foggy, my emotions were a mess, Depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts started to occur out of thin air. I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life and I’ve always been a relatively happy and generally chipper person. I also started to see what I thought was acne on my back and chest but later found to be folliculitis. It is a very uncomfortable and unattractive fungal infection of the skin that was brought on by the birth control. Not everyone has this experience but I’ve spoken with others and read medical articles on this. I stopped NuvaRing and within a week my skin was clear and after a couple weeks my emotions regulated. I was totally back to normal. If you are considering this birth control, it may be helpful to do a lot of research. And if you take it and start having side effects, I would stop right away.
