Does mirena coil cause thrush?

I got the Mirena coil fitted back in august before this I was natural and not on any form of contraception for a long time. Since I’ve had the coil fitted I’ve had constant BV (bacterial vaginosis) even the antibiotics isn’t working now, I know it’s from the coil as I didn’t have any issues until this has been fitted. I am sick of it and I’m in quite a lot of discomfort because of the infection that I’ve had for weeks, I have booked in to get this removed. After doing some further research I found that you’re at risk of getting bv when you have the hormonal coil so I guess I’m just one of the unlucky ones.

I bled for 6 months after the very painful insertion. My period then stopped for 5 months, and I was bleeding heavily for the last 3 months. However, I did not gain weight, get acne or have any changes to my mood. Shame about the bleeding because it would've been perfect!

I loved the coil. I had minimal hormonal side affects compared to the pill and the implant. I stopped having my period which for me was a bonus. It was also great not having to think about contraception for so long. I would highly recommend the coil. I would suggest speaking with a gynaecologist if you have any side affects as some medications can cause them to be worse.
