Horrific. Gynacologist suggested Mirena coil for heavy periods and bad PMS as couldn't take Pill due to hormone sensitivity. Coil fine at fitting, very strong stomach pain which was to be expected. However it felt like my kidneys had been punched due to pain. The back pain was so severe it went all the way down my legs and I couldn't sit/ stnd or lie down without wincing. After 7 days I had coil removed, I was told it had dropped down. Three months later I am still recieving physio to alleviate back pain cause muscule trauma from the coil.

I bled for 6 months after the very painful insertion. My period then stopped for 5 months, and I was bleeding heavily for the last 3 months. However, I did not gain weight, get acne or have any changes to my mood. Shame about the bleeding because it would've been perfect!

It was great — 3 months of light spotting in the adjustment period, NO period at all after that. Until my body expelled the IUD 8 months in. I got a replacement IUD. It also expelled. 1 month in. Sadly, my uterus doesn't like IUDs. Other than that and some lower back pain, it was a very good contraceptive and helped stop my heavy periods altogether.
