Had kyleena fitted on recommendation from my doctor due to severe painful heavy periods, I have adenomyosis and suspected endo. Insertion was uncomfortable but not excruciating, the cramp lasted a couple of seconds and I was fine. Bleeding started within hours and didn't stop for the duration of use, I was having excruciating pain every day to the point I couldn't walk, feel my legs and awful tail bone pain. I booked an appointment a month later and my doctor said I didn't look well and removed it without me even having to ask. I wish it had worked for me but it just didn't. The removal was fine and gave instant relief.

I tried the Kyleena coil for nearly 6 months. I previously tried a wide variety of contraception methods but nothing agreed with me. This was the worst one. Even during my sixth month of having it, the pain was like nothing I've experienced before. Very painful during sex. Hot flushes frequently. Heavy bleeding for the majority of the time I had the coil. Awful cramps. Constantly tired to the point I was napping on breaks at work. I'd sleep for 13 hours at a time and still feel tired. The only positive was that my mood didn't seem to change.

The insertion process was awful despite taking painkillers beforehand and doing everything I was advised to (the nurses at the appointment were also so unsympathetic when I nearly passed out). Immediately after fitting I had horrendous cramps and hot flushes which lasted for several days afterwards and I was bedbound. This pattern of heavy cramping and bleeding continued and I also experienced quite severe low mood. I struggled to book an appointment to have it removed as they told me it needed time to settle down (they were suggesting anywhere between 3-8 months) but I eventually managed to get it removed a month after having it fitted. If it weren’t for the low mood I might have stuck through for a few months to see but I honestly felt so low every single day. The removal process was surprisingly smooth however!
