I first had an implant after my first baby & it was great. Stopped my periods & no other side effects. I then had it removed after 2.5 years to conceive again. I had the second implant in for 2 years following another pregnancy & have only recently put two & two together as to why I’ve been having real low moods, zero interest in a sex life & not loosing any weight despite exercising regularly & eating well. I’ve also had regular spotting this time round. It’s been a completely different experience to the first! I had it removed this week and I can’t wait to know what ‘me’ feels like!

Awful removal - lots of scar tissue had formed around my implant and the nurses and doctors found it very hard to remove. The implant had ached in my arm the entire 4.5 years I had it (I couldn't have it take out as soon as it expired due to COVID-19). I didn't notice side effects until I had it removed. I've had it removed (and no other contraceptive methods aside from condoms) for 4 months now and have noticed: heavier periods with a much shorter break in between bleeds than I used to get, hair thinning and loss, gained weight, vaginal dryness, and decreased pleasure during sexual activities. I went on the Nexaplanon

As a contraceptive, it's good, but the side effects are too much. I will not stop bleeding, and I've had the implant for about 18 months now. It's brought on anxiety, heart palpitations when I 'should' be experiencing my period (but I'm bleeding constantly, no break), low mood, tender breasts, stomach pain. I'm hoping to have it removed soon. It has ben horrific.
