Having it put in was, in all honesty, excruciating. But then I was refused pain relief beforehand. Pain continued to be horrendous for over 2 weeks. Called doctor multiple times during this time but as my temperature was normal they said “it would settle”. Ongoing pain/discomfort for first 2 months (made endo symptoms worse, particularly bladder pain). On month 4 now, still experiencing the same pain during ovulation/period as before but with very light flow, mainly spotting that occurs throughout the month. Constant cystitis symptoms. Sex more painful than before (when I even feel up for it, my drive has disappeared) Giving it one more month before asking for it to be removed.

I very much respect that the Mirena works for some but there needs to be more responsive services for those who do have a problem. I was recommended it too to prevent endometrial cancer and believe my risk (of endometrial cancer) as I breastfed for three years and am not obese was exaggerated and the possible Mirena side effects were underplayed, for example, The Scottish Medicines' agency says 89% of women get side effects with the Kyleena. My periods were lighter but much longer. In the end, after 7 weeks of being gaslighted and suffering "contractions" it was removed as an emergency under a general anaesthetic.

I wish I could say that this contraception has been perfect for me like others who have tried it but afraid I had quite a few issues in the 7 months I had it in. Positives - Definitely noticed that my hormones were barely affected, I felt content and happy a lot of the time. I have been far less teary than when I was on a combined pill to regulate my periods and barely any mood swings! Negatives: Unfortunately 3 weeks after the coil being inserted, I got a raging kidney infection. Over the next few months, I got random persistent aches, near my hip that would be stronger around ovulation, which I'm getting checked out if it is cyst related. Far more breast tenderness too. And then the joy of joys of repetitivr thrush and cystitis!
