I have been on Cerazette for 4 years now. Initially, I had headaches, breast tenderness and mood swings. These symptoms subsided after 3 months. My periods became very irregular and then stopped altogether. Although my doctors deny this all the time, I feel like the pill caused excessive weight gain. Yes, I have had circumstances that affected my life but the weight gain was dramatic. In the first year alone, I gained 15 kilograms. After 4 years, I am up to 25 kg extra weight (BMI 29) and I am struggling to lose the weight with diet and exercise. Lately, I have had more bodily hair growth and am losing some hair on my head. Not many mood swings but definitely feeling angry most of the time. I am also struggling with a very low sex drive, which is starting to affect my marriage. I have an appointment with my GP, will try to switch to the combined pill to try.

I took me a whole year to realise my depressive state, my terrible body odor, my thick and dense body hair, my hair loss and my constant headaches were related to the same thing: the pill. The only thing that was evident from the start was how oily my face and body became and consequently, all the acne that I got on my face, chest and entire back were due to the pill. Another thing no one tells you about is how your breasts lose density and become smaller and saggy (as opposed to the enlargement caused by estrogen). And you can also have constant insomnia. After 2 years taking the pill and accepting that I would have to deal with side effects for many years to come (I have endometriosis), my spotting turned into heavy bleeding and then into multiple periods in a single month. The diagnosis: I had developed an intolerance to synthetic progestogen. How great! After stopping the pill, I felt like I had taken a shot of serotonin, and only then did I notice how depressive I had been all this time. It's been a battle, but I believe I'm uphill now.

It had taken me a while to find a good contraception I started with Desorex which gave me horribly long irregular periods that would last months with only a few off days. I then tried cerelle which was just as bad and I didn’t get along with it then tried Cerazette. Cerazette has improved this definitely but I would still say I get irregular and abnormally longer period just not as bad, I also get long periods of time that I am not bleeding. I have come to realise from this site though that my irregular mid month bleeds are break through bleeding as I am not always the best at taking my pill on time due to shift patterns. I have been trying to improve this and have noticed that if I am 10 hours out it usually triggers a bleed and if I am bleeding for a while then again a 10 hour break tends to stop the bleed again. I think routine is the best for the mini pill. My sex drive feels the same, my skin is fine and I don’t notice any mood change, I also have been putting up with these irregular periods as they are SO light, I’ll only need a small pad or even paper for a few hours whereas not on the pill my period were very heavy and painful, I get almost no cramps ever on this which is great, it’s just annoying not knowing when you may get the small irregular bleeds. I am going to keep on the pill as my experience with the others was much worse however I have been debating Noriday from the reviews here about periods stopping I just don’t think that will happen for me lol, and I don’t want to risk getting the symptoms of dryness and low drive that I have seen so for now I will stick to Cerazette and keep researching:)
