Drovelis is a new type of combined pill that contains a brand new type of oestrogen, called estetrol, which has not been used in contraception before. This hormone is combined with a newer type of progestogen, called drospirenone, which is in pills like Yasmin and Lucette. The oestrogen in Drovelis is 10 to 20 times less potent than the usual type of oestrogen used in combined pills, so researchers will monitor users closely over the next few years to see if this reduces the risk of side effects like blood clots. You can now buy Drovelis from The Lowdown!

Drovelis pill

I was on hormonal birth control methods for 10 years with nothing had bad experiences. I’d come off all methods and had given up until I saw Drovelis on The Lowdown and decided to give it a shot because of the low side effects listed. And I’m so glad I did. No breakthrough bleeding, weight loss, no changes to my sex drive, only minimal breakouts which is a miracle compared to the other methods. The Lowdown has given me my bodily autonomy back with their suggestions and articles and I can certainly say I’ll never go back off this pill!

I started taking it on the first day of my period, it lasted 13 days (normally would last 5 days)then gave me a break for 4 days then bled the whole time on that pill, 24 days bleeding in total, once i started the white sugar pills my bleeding died down and finally stopped, im off of it now (only for a month) and i havent bled once, not even spotting, ill go back on it next month to see if i bleed again from it

Drovelis pill

Overall this is one of the better pills I've been on (previously tried Dianette and Marvelon) - I don't think I'll ever find a perfect solution! For PCOS it improved acne effectively and quickly. However, I've had much better results reducing hirsutism with previous pills and with the Mirena coil. Main perk of this pill compared to others is that I haven't experienced thrush (which was a regular issue before on other pills). I also feel like my sex drive, while reduced, isn't totally absent! The knowledge that this pill contains lower doses of active ingredients and is less 'synthetic' than traditional pills makes me feel like it's closer to my natural hormonal state. I'm hopeful that when I do come off the pill and try to get pregnant, it won't take many months for my periods to come back. It took several months to return with other pills. Mentally I think this pill is dampening my mood and energy a bit, but at least I don't experience the huge mood swings that I'd experience during my natural cycle. Finally I've heard anecdotes about ADHD medication not being as effective whilst on the pill. I haven't found this to be an issue taking Drovelis, and actually the consistency in my mood is fairly helpful for ADHD symptom management.
