IUB Ballerine

I had my IUB inserted in March 2019. I didn't have any pregnancies before. The insertion of the device was the most painful experience of my life, almost passed out and threw up at the doctor's office, it was a really intense sharp pain. I also had very intense cramps for 2 days after insertion, no pain killers helped. I suppose that's what being in labor feels like, I constantly had an urge to push. After this, everything was fine, the device is reliable and comfortable; and I am using it for more than 5 years now (obgyn said I can use it up to 6 years if it works well). During these five years I had increased bloodflow and sometimes mid-cycle spotting because of the device, but nothing too bad. Overall, I would recommend.

The IUB has had a positive effect on me and I would recommend if anyone is looking for a non-hormonal contraception. Bleeding has been heavier but after 6 months it is mainly heavy on days 1,2,3 and gone by day 5. Overall, I would recommend as it hasn’t affected my body majorly.

Bled for two weeks after insertion, ended up falling out halfway and had to take it out at the gynecologist. The ball design seems to not anchor it enough. Intimacy was painful and had spotting after.

This really works for me. I’ve been on the pill and has Kyleena for 6 years, but I feel more connected to my body. I had to remove it the second time I got kyleena up, cause I felt so depressed, and I feel it helped getting it out. With ballerina I don’t feel anything. There were heavy bleeding the first 3 months but then it turned to normal afterwards. I get a little crappy before period, but I can take a pill and then it is okay. I am really happy with this choice

IUB Ballerine

I had the ballerine inserted in September. My doctor had prescribed me a medication to soften the cervix, ponstan, and a numbing gel for the insertion. Insertion was a bit painful, I had intense cramp-like pains for probably 30 seconds in two bursts; once for measurement and then the actual insertion. It was over quickly and went smoothly. I had cramps for the rest of the day and they came in waves. I took the ponstan and used a hot water bottle. When I woke up the next day I felt normal again. I bled for a good stretch after I got it in. It was light, but persisted for about 3 weeks or so. Keep in mind I'd come off the pill (cerazette) so my body was definitely out of whack. I got my first period earlier this month with the coil in. It was very heavy, and a bit more crampy than usual. Nothing unbearable, but much heavier than the pill in comparison. It lasted about 6 days, with 3 days of very heavy bleeding. That being said, it was the best decision I ever made. My mood has stabilised, I feel less anxious day to day and much more energetic. I'm very happy with the Ballerine.

Other than the fact that there are no hormones involved there is really no benefits! I lost so my blood in 10+ day a month period that I have an iron deficiency for the first time in my life. I wanted to take it out, my GP couldn’t take it, then hospital gynaecologist tried with a local anesthetiser didn’t manage. I need a full body anesthetiser to remove it from my body! DON’T do this to yourself!

This review is not only about Ballerine, but also about Gynefix and shaped IUD (as I used all of them and can compare). In the past, I used Gynefix copper IUD twice, for 5 years each. This frameless IUD is tiny and I was a happy user. However, this year, when it was time to get my 3rd, I could not find a doctor in the UK, who could insert it. So after much hesitation, I decided to give an old-fashioned t-shaped copper IUD a chance. It was a nightmare. After the insertion, I spent 3 weeks in a constant state of discomfort and low-to-moderate pain. When my first period after insertion had started, discomfort turned into excruciating pain. I could only lie in bed, crying from pain. The experience was very different from Gynefix, which never caused me any troubles. I booked a removal appointment and got the thing out as soon as I could. I also took a couple of days off after the removal, just to recover from the painful ordeal. I found about Ballerine (a ball-shaped copper IUD) from a random web search. It is not available on NHS and I found only one doctor who installs this IUD privately in London, UK. So I gave it a chance and so far, my experience is great. I felt discomfort - low pain in the first 2-3 days after the insertion, but after this, it is absolutely unnoticeable. So if you cannot bear a t-shaped IUD, it does not mean that any IUD is not for you. The shape and size make a huge difference. At least it defiantly did for me.

I got the Ballerine after trying The Kyleena and Nuva Ring. Both didn’t work well for me so my gynaecologist suggested the Ballerine because it’s flexible and small and of course hormone free. My experience wasn’t so great ... I got horrible periods, extreme sharp pains when I enganged my core (I’m a fitness trainer and PT so that was brilliant) and I simply felt uncomfortable all the time. Then I started reading articles that quite a few women were getting pregnant while they were using the Ballerine so I had it taken out. Simply because the periods were unbearable, I had sharp pains and didn’t feel confident using it anymore.
