Vagirux is a vaginal pessary that contains oestrogen which is only used locally inside the vagina. Each pack comes with an environmentally friendly re-useable applicator. It is used every night at first, for 2 to 4 weeks, then the dose reduces slowly to twice weekly. Vaginal oestrogen is very safe, with studies showing it is only absorbed into the body for a very short time at the start of use, in fact, an entire year's supply of vaginal oestrogen is equivalent to just 1 oral oestrogen HRT tablet. The leaflet contained in the packet of vaginal oestrogen is the same leaflet used in oral and patch oestrogen and does not fully apply to vaginal use. Large studies have shown there is no increased risk of cancer when using vaginal oestrogen. Women who have had breast cancer may also use vaginal oestrogen, but only after a discussion with their oncology specialist.

Once I remembered to use the hrt when prescribed i have found the combination of pill patch and vaginal tablets to be very effective in controlling my symptoms. On occasions i do still get some symptoms such as brain fog, low mood and slight anxiety but no where to the levels prior to hrt

I started with a patch but it kept falling of due to lots of exercise. Moved to a tablet for a while before my doctor recently gel and utrogesteran. Started on oestrogel but changed to samdrena due to problems with supply and symptoms returning when packaging was changed. Happy on the samdrena. Did have some bleeding and after investigating I needed to increase progesterone which seems to be ok. Have a few occasional symptoms one of which is some sore joints/muscle pulls and do seem to pick up lots of small problems - ear infection, cough, cold etc.

It took a while to get dosage correct. 100ug too much, 75ug not quite enough. Patches preferred to gel, although I do sometimes use gel to top up. I dont think my current symptoms are due to hrt or side effects. I did come off hrt for a few weeks at request of gynae and peri menopause symptoms returned with a vengeance.: joint pain is the worst. Headaches, itching, cramps, hair loss all improved with hrt. Still get tinnitus on occasion for no apparent reason.
