Oestrogen patches are a great way to deliver oestrogen through the skin, which is safer than taking an oral tablet as there is no increased risk of blood clots. Patches comes in several strengths meaning it's easy to titrate the dose up and down. Patches are worn on fatty, hair free skin below the waist like the bum or thighs. They're convenient if you're forgetful as only need to be changed twice a week, but remember to put them on a different bit of skin each time. Estradot 100 patches are clear so suitable for all skin tones and are smaller than other oestrogen patches available.

Method

Continuous HRT is where you take the same dose of both oestrogen and progesterone every day. It is used when your periods have stopped or when you have used cyclical HRT for more than 1 year. The aim of continuous HRT is to prevent bleeding.
Cyclical HRT is where you take breaks from the progesterone part of HRT, usually each month. You will usually have a withdrawal bleed around the time the progesterone has stopped. Some methods of HRT have this break built in already.
Oestrogen is the main component of HRT. If you have a uterus and are using oestrogen HRT then you will need to take a form of progesterone to protect the womb lining (endometrium) from overgrowing, as this can increase the risk of endometrial cancer.

Due to being a poor absorber I have changed brand patch a few times and also had to increase dose to 175 over time. Still not right. My blood levels are only 181nm the vaginal dryness and loss of sex drive is since having the Merina fitted. Never suffered before that.

I had a hysterectomy in November (endometriosis and adenomyosis) but my ovaries were left. Almost immediately, I had symptoms of perimenopause - boiling at night, sore boobs, horrible anxiety (filled with dread that something awful was about to happen), zero libido, dizzy spells, incontinence… I spoke to a private gp who specialised in women’s health. She explained that sometimes ovary failure happens after a hysterectomy and put me on hrt. I felt like I wanted to cry when I spoke to her - she explained everything so well and I honestly started feeling better within days of taking HRT. I’m still feeling strangely anxious about things but exercise is helping. Progesterone helps me feel sleepy at night which a bonus with the insomnia I usually have.

Only been on this regime for 2 weeks so very early days, but I have noticed my good days are brilliant and are lasting longer so far. A few more cramps then I used to have before the coil but this doesn’t bother me as my main symptoms I want to manage are the mental health side of things.

I started with peri-menopause symptoms aged 27. I was finally diagnosed last year at aged 31! I am so thankful for HRT, it has made me feel almost normal again which is amazing compared to how I felt those years of waiting to be diagnosed!

My experience with my HRT regime has been a roller coaster ride and not good. 18 months and still no nearer to finding what works well for me. I have had one private appt because I was so ill and had to wait to change to my private recommended prescription only to wait again because patch out of stock, finally started them only to be told by gp they would not continue to prescribe my oestrogel. Doing this halved my dose. I ve now developed arthritis and high blood pressure

It has been a long process to settle on a regime via my private consultant. For some time I was taking higher than recommended doses as I am one of many who do not absorb well. Tried various brands and dosages but no real difference so I have now reduced my dosages to more normal levels with no effect to how I am. It’s important to keep tweaking dosages and different drugs to get the right combination.
