I've been on this pill for over a year now. The main disadvantage for me was the discharge that came along with Desogestrel. It's more frequent and a different texture, which threw me off as I thought it may be an infection but after going the doctors and getting the all clear, the pill was the only explanation for it. I originally went on it to help with cramps, however I found them to be even worse being on the pill. I still get periods, but they tend to be quite irregular. I noticed it did make me more anxious.

I’ve been on this pill for over a year now. I went on it due to bad cramps on my period and all month long. I did find out I had a cyst about a month after I went on the pill. At first everything was fine. First week had some bad cramps and bad moods but that was it. Changes didn’t start happening until about February of this year. So about 5 months in. My boobs started getting bigger (went from a 36b now a 34DD) I started getting spots all over my chest and upper arms which has led to scars. I gained weight. I was very small before, just above a healthy weight, now I’m about 9 stone. Which isn’t bad but it happened quite rapidly which led to lots of dark purple stretch marks on my hips, thighs, behind my knee/leg, on my boobs and arms. My mood hasn’t really been affected. Maybe pms is a bit more intense. From may-early July I had constant light spotting. My period comes every month but often comes a week late which didn’t happen before. It is usually a lot lighter though. I don’t get cramps all the time anymore, just ones when I’m on my period but they’re bearable. I had a pill check at the doctors a few months ago and told the nurse all the issues I was having but she said due to the fact I’m on it for pain, there’s no other pill that will help. Only the implant but it’ll give me the same side effects since it’s the same hormones. And seeing as nothing about my cyst or pain has been explained to me aside from slapping me on the pill, I’m kind of stuck with it now. If I had another option I’d probably go with it but I refuse to experience that pain again.

I wanted to go back on the pill as a reliable method of contraception but the side effects were too much. Skin outbreaks, loss of sex drive and darker hair growth were the main reasons for coming off this pill. I had always used the combined pill previously, so I may return to this in the future.

I took this pill for roughly a year, after I was told the mini-pill I'd been on previously (Cerelle) was not available at my local sexual health clinic. I'd also had an 8 month break in taking any pill due to lack of supply/need during lockdown. Although Desogestrel supposedly contains exactly the same kind/dose of hormone as Cerelle, I had a very different experience on it. The first 6 months were fine for me mood-wise, and my periods became lighter and more irregular but nothing drastic. Around the 7 month mark I realised I had lost a considerable amount of weight and this worried me a bit - due to covid restrictions at my GP however I never got an appointment to check this out. I got increasingly bothered by the irregular periods (naturally mine are like clockwork) & they were usually not even proper blood but a dark brown coloured discharge I'd never experienced before. To add to this I also suffered from vaginal dryness and a lower sex drive after about 7 months too. Around the time I was returning to uni to study a master's (10 months in) I started to feel extremely anxious and have really low moods quite regularly; despite this being more of an external factor, with all the other side effects I decided it was time to give my body a break at the 12month mark.

So I have very mixed feelings about the mini pill! I was on it for 4 years without noticing any side effects. But about two years ago, I started getting recurrent thrush and severe ovulation cramps with irregular bleeding. I did a lot of tests to figure out why I suddenly kept on getting thrush and it turns out that the mini pill caused me to have vaginal atrophy which is a factor for recurring infections. After being prescribed oestrogen cream to compensate the side effects, I decided to stop hormonal contraception for the time being.

I found this pill much better than the combined pill - the combined pill made my moods very low and I had to stop taking it, whereas Desogestrel did not affect my mood. However, this pill has caused me to have a light bleed for the past 4 weeks. This is bearable (it is light) but very inconvenient and tiring. I am now thinking of maybe trying the implant or coil instead in the hope that they will stop me bleeding.

I have mixed feelings about the mini pill. I started taking it in 2018 after trying a combined pill and at first I was over the moon. My periods had stopped, it didn’t cause the mood swings that the combined pill did etc. But now I’ve been on it for 4 years I am being affected by my low mood, loss of sex drive and breakthrough bleeding with severe cramps and breast tenderness. I’m looking to move away from hormonal contraceptives all together but this was probably one of the best of a bad bunch.

I really like this pill, i’ve had no negative side effects i’ve been fine on it however i’m on my period like every 2 weeks, although they are lighter it’s made my period irregular and more often. They used to be really regular, im not sure wether it’s because i’ve only been on it about 3 months and it’s new or it’s just made them weird.

Just wasn't good at taking it everyday which caused some bother and my skin was badly effected with large sore spots on my chin. Other than that had no complaints, it stopped my periods which was my main aim.

I was hopeful my bleeding pattern would settle down, but after 6 months I was still getting spotting or a light bleed every 4-5 days. I also struggled with a low mood, loss of sex drive, dizziness, nausea and hot flushes!

Don’t keep it on the DL.Put it on the LD.
