Rybelsus reviews

Rybelsus is a tablet form of semaglutide, the ingredient that is found in the injectables Ozempic and Wegovy. It works by controlling blood sugar levels and making you feel fuller and less hungry (so can also help weight loss). Rybelsus has been lisenced to treat type 2 diabetes, however, some doctors might prescribe it in an "off license" way to people who are looking for weight management options but can't use injections.

Rybelsus FAQs

Rybelsus is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics your natural GLP-1 hormone to reduce appetite, increase the feeling of fullness and slow emptying of the stomach. This helps reduce body weight by acting on the brain’s hunger centres.

Rybelsus can be used for people with type 2 diabetes that is not controlled by diet changes or other medications. It may be used in an off licence way for people to lose weight if they meet certain criteria.

Curently, Rybelsus is only availale on the NHS for people with type 2 diabetes who's control is not tight enough on 3 other oral diabetes medication, and who have a BMI over 35 (or slightly lower if from certain ethnic minorities). There also has to be a reason why you cannot use injectable GLP-1 medications like Ozempic which should be used as the first option.

Some private services offer Rybelsus ranging between £150 to £400.

Rybelsus is effective at improving blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes.

In studies, people on Rybelsus lost an average of between 5 to 8 pounds over 6 months depending on the dose they were taking.

Rybelsus can help people lose weight, but combining it alongside a healthy diet and increased exercise is the best way to help lose belly fat.

Rybelsus can improve how you feel by helping control type 2 diabetes an dreducing symptoms and complications from diabetes. By losing weight with Rybelsus, you can also feel better due to an overall improved health.

There is no specific way to stop Wegovy, it is what works for you. Some people reduce the dose slowly, others stop it immediately.

If you stop taking Wegovy, the effects will wear off so you may feel more hungry or interested in food again. This is why it is so important to change your habits while using the medication. Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise, including strength training, while using Rybelsus and after you stop it will help maintain your weight.

Weight regain is likely unless lifestyle changes are maintained.

Rybelsus can help people lose weight but the speed of weight loss will also be determined by how much you change your diet and increase exercise.

Rybelsus is known to cause gastrointestinal side effects like nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea alongside reducing appetite. This can lead to dehydration and kidney failure which is why it's so important to drink plenty of water while using the medication. Rybelsus can also increase the risk of gallstones and pancreatitis, which can be very serious. If you are diabetic and use Rybelsus, you may be at risk of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar levels) and worsneing of diabetic retinopathy (an eye condition associated with diabetes). Rybelsus may increase the risk of aspiration (where stomach contents go into the lungs) during a general anaesthetic. Finally, in rat studies, there was an increased risk of thyroid cancer in rats, which increased with long term use and higher doses of semaglutide.

If you have nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea as side effects with Wegovy, this can cause dehydration. If you have these symptoms and feel weak, thirsty or are passing little urine, seek medical advice. Abdominal pain can be caused by gallstones or pancreatitis which are risks associated with Rybelsus and you should see a doctor with these symptoms. Some people experience mood change with Rybelsus, so please speak to someone if you feel low. The Samaritans are available 24/7 365 days a year on 116 123 or call NHS 111, choosing option 2.

As Rybelsus is a fairly new drug, there is limited research on the long-term effects. As it is a new drug, it is still being monitored for safety, and any issue will be flagged up by health safety authorities.
