Utrogestan tablet reviews
0 reviews
Utrogestan is a brand of micronised progesterone which is body identical and often one of the first progesterones you will be offered as part of HRT. It has a neutral breast cancer risk for up to 5 years (yay!) but some people find it causes more irregular bleeding while using HRT. Utrogestan is usually taken on an empty stomach and at night as it makes you drowsy. Taking it on a full stomach isn't a problem, it just increases absorption of the drug and may increase the side effects. If you get side effects such as mood change, bloating or breast tenderness, the tablet can be inserted into the vagina or anus as an off licence use - please discuss this with your healthcare professional before trying.

Continuous HRT is where you take the same dose of both oestrogen and progesterone every day. It is used when your periods have stopped or when you have used cyclical HRT for more than 1 year. The aim of continuous HRT is to prevent bleeding.
Cyclical HRT is where you take breaks from the progesterone part of HRT, usually each month. You will usually have a withdrawal bleed around the time the progesterone has stopped. Some methods of HRT have this break built in already.

Progesterone only
If you have a uterus and are using oestrogen HRT then you will need to take a form of progesterone to protect the womb lining (endometrium) from overgrowing as this can increase the risk of endometrial cancer. This progesterone is called endometrial protection.
