Novofem is an oral tablet which contains oestrogen in 16 red tablets, followed by 12 white tablets which contain both oestrogen and synthetic progesterone. The progestogen is norethisterone which has been used for years and is good at controlling bleeding. The tablets are taken every day, with each pack representing a monthly cycle. You should start the first packet in the first 5 days of your period (or any time if your periods are irregular or infrequent). After you have finished taking the white tablets, you will usually have a bleed in the following week. After staying on Novofem for 1-2 years, you should be switched to a continuous regime where the progesterone hormone is taken every day, rather than for half the cycle.

Method
Cyclical
Cyclical HRT is where you take breaks from the progesterone part of HRT, usually each month. You will usually have a withdrawal bleed around the time the progesterone has stopped. Some methods of HRT have this break built in already.
Combined (oestrogen and progesterone)
Oestrogen is the main component of HRT. If you have a uterus you should use HRT which also contains progesterone, or alongside progesterone to protect the womb lining (endometrium) from overgrowing as this can increase the risk of endometrial cancer.
