My experience using HRT has been a journey. I have tried different regimes. I first starting on tablets, but due to my migraines I was put on patches. I went on the combined Evorel Conti patch but that made me have a withdrawal bleed every day for 6 months. I felt awful and weak. I then tried Evorel Sequi. This combined patch stopped the bleeding, however there wasn't any change in my symptoms. I was on 50 micrograms with these combined patches Two years in I started to experience vaginal atrophy. I tried Vagifem but it just caused vaginal burning, then ovestin, but this didn't work for me either and I found it to be very messy. After extensive research, I came across Estring, which a vaginal ring, it releases a steady amount of estrogen daily into the vagina keeping it hydrated. This was a life saver. Due to my symptoms not improving, the consultant put me on a higher dose patch due to my age. As the combined patches only go up to 100 micrograms, I had to be given an Estradiol only patches with a progestogen, again as i have a womb. I used Utrogestan but that caused bleeding. I stuck it out for 6 months then gave up. It also made me very dizzy. I'm now now using the Marina coil in conjunction with the transdermal estradoil patch as I have a womb. My current dose is 137.5 micrograms which is Estradot 100 and Estradot 37.5. I use two patches twice a week

I was initially prescribed Everol 50 and my doctor said to go back if I didn’t notice any change after two weeks. Listening to friends/colleagues, they said that was not enough time and I stupidly listened to them! I did feel a bit better after a couple weeks. When I’d gotten to four weeks I went back as I still didn’t feel myself at all and was increased to Everol 100. I’d already had a mirena coil fitted previously due to continuous heavy bleeding. HRT has had a very positive effect thankfully!

I was initially on gel, which I didn’t absorb well. Patches have worked much better for me and this regime has eradicated or improved all of my symptoms

HRT has been a lifesaver for me. I can’t say anything else really. I was on the brink and it brought me back.

HRT has revolutionised my life. I was bedbound without it and frequently hospitalised with crippling migraines and heart problems. I was young when I started perimenopause (36) but couldn’t get diagnosed until 40 privately. I had mirena coil put in first for heavy painful periods and then started Evorel patches. I have gone form 12.5 - 100 patches over 9 months and my need a further increase. Mirena coil has changed my life too. My bleeding was so severe I was anaemic and couldn’t leave the house as needed to change my pad hourly. However I’m now having symptoms again and they are looking to add progesterone tablets to stop my periods (they have continued monthly with mirena coil) I am also going to add testosterone back in as my libido was taken a nose dive again. I wish I’d been able to get HRT when my symptoms started, not having to suffer for years.

My experience with hrt has been pretty average. I feel better than I did without it but not like I used to. I still don't feel like me. I don't feel like there is an opportunity to try other types of hrt. Just put on one and left to get on with it. There are no regular checks to see how well it works or if something else might be more appropriate

Over the last 8 years, it has been a true rollercoaster. Changing my HRT has often come with a lot of anxiety and stress. I have been on this regime for over a year and I finally feel more stable. I do hope to try the implants at one point but I know they’re not as popular!
