Estriol 0.01% cream contains oestrogen which is only used locally and can be used both internally inside the vagina and outside on the vulva. It comes with an applicator to help with insertion. It is used every night at first, for 2 to 4 weeks, then the dose reduces slowly to twice weekly. Vaginal oestrogen is very safe, with studies showing it is only absorbed into the body for a very short time at the start of use, in fact, an entire year's supply of vaginal oestrogen is equivalent to just 1 oral oestrogen HRT tablet. The leaflet contained in the packet of vaginal oestrogen is the same leaflet used in oral and patch oestrogen and does not fully apply to vaginal use. Large studies have shown there is no increased risk of cancer when using vaginal oestrogen. Women who have had breast cancer may also use vaginal oestrogen, but only after a discussion with their oncology specialist.

Localised HRT has helped me with some symptoms but I only used it late in my journey, I wish I’d used it sooner.

My experience has been very positive with HRT.before I started using it I was losing complete control over. My bladder and the hot flushes were happening all too often. Both of these symptoms have been practically solved although in the combined pull I’ve noticed weaker bladder in the days using both hormones.

Challenging with bleeding despite being in chemical menopause and on GNRH analog Zolodex injections. The add back HRT still triggered bleeding which has been frustrating.

I’ve been on HRT now for 1 year. Still have a few of the same symptoms but it is improving gradually just taking a little longer. I am in the process of speaking with my doctor about changing to a different form of HRT , and as I am having problems with joint pain, I will be seeking advice for this also as this may be worsening due to the medication.

Due to being a poor absorber I have changed brand patch a few times and also had to increase dose to 175 over time. Still not right. My blood levels are only 181nm the vaginal dryness and loss of sex drive is since having the Merina fitted. Never suffered before that.

Started initially on orstrogel but found no benefit. Changed to Lenzetto with some improvements. 1 GP was not happy to give higher dose than 3 sprays but a different one was. When I asked to try Prasterone, GP didn’t know what it was, but read up on it & was then happy to prescribe. Still having irregular spotting which is thought to be related to my VA & anterior prolapse. So VA not fully resolved. Wait for prolapse appt is 6 months locally. In the meantime I’m uncomfortable still. GP support has been good, but I was more knowledgeable about Lenzetto & Prasterone & I noticed my own prolapse in spite of being previously examined multiple times. I am convinced this is why my VA isn’t settling

Confusing. I’m not sure if it’s helpful? Night sweats have increased and I’m experiencing horrendous restless legs at night. I had to reduce 4 pumps of gel down to 2 as my breasts felt like I had mastitis!

After trying different HRT preparations and not feeling that these helped with my symptoms or that I was getting the right advice from my GP, I decided to seek help from a private Menopause clinic. I am so pleased I did. The doctor changed me to Oestrogel and oral progesterone and I’ve not looked back. 4 pumps and I feel amazing!
