Testosterone is licensed for severely low libido in postmenopausal women, however, it may be prescribed off licence for low mood and fatigue. Testosterone blood levels need to be monitored every 3 months, and sometimes the dose is altered to get the right level. When the dose level is correct for you, you will need annual blood tests. It is important that the blood test is taken before you apply the testosterone as this may affect the result.

My experience using HRT has been a journey. I have tried different regimes. I first starting on tablets, but due to my migraines I was put on patches. I went on the combined Evorel Conti patch but that made me have a withdrawal bleed every day for 6 months. I felt awful and weak. I then tried Evorel Sequi. This combined patch stopped the bleeding, however there wasn't any change in my symptoms. I was on 50 micrograms with these combined patches Two years in I started to experience vaginal atrophy. I tried Vagifem but it just caused vaginal burning, then ovestin, but this didn't work for me either and I found it to be very messy. After extensive research, I came across Estring, which a vaginal ring, it releases a steady amount of estrogen daily into the vagina keeping it hydrated. This was a life saver. Due to my symptoms not improving, the consultant put me on a higher dose patch due to my age. As the combined patches only go up to 100 micrograms, I had to be given an Estradiol only patches with a progestogen, again as i have a womb. I used Utrogestan but that caused bleeding. I stuck it out for 6 months then gave up. It also made me very dizzy. I'm now now using the Marina coil in conjunction with the transdermal estradoil patch as I have a womb. My current dose is 137.5 micrograms which is Estradot 100 and Estradot 37.5. I use two patches twice a week

Only three weeks in but feeling sooooo much better with the gel morning (3 pumps) and prometruim 2 x per night cyclically. Hopefully this continues as I usually suffer sever PMD/PMDD a few days before my period but so far so good. Sleep is so much better with progesterone. I like that the gel gives me instant energy first thing in the morning. I’m still getting some night sweats Just need to get the bloating and cramps sorted, hopefully this is just a temporary thing and will settle after a few months. Went straight from Zoely to this new regime. Zoely was great for helping with my pelvic pain due to adenomyosis and endo, brain fog lifted, and helped a little with fatigue but it caused my mood to tank significantly and I developed severe depression, more anxiety, much low libido. I’m so glad I insisted I come off it after 5 months and try something else. I can’t believe the difference in how I feel coming off the BCP and onto the estrogel pro. I was terrified of taking the prometrium (progesterone) because of the severe reaction I had to the synthetic progestin in Zoely but so far so good! 😊

Lots of changes of dose since I was first put on HRT at 35. This dose seems to have me the most stable

I have been using oestrogel and found the control to add pumps to match my needs much better than previous pill regimen. Was still struggling with joint and muscle pain as well as brain fog and lack of focus so added testosterone (androfem) 6 months ago and it’s been the missing piece for me

Key to me managing my menopause symptoms has been testosterone but had to go privately initially to get it as the wait was 18mths to 2 yrs! Was transformative for energy and joint pains Oestrogel takes some getting used to and does take a while to dry but seems to manage my symptoms
