To start off with the implant was great for me for the first 6 months, but then my side effects settled in and I hated it! My sex drive decreased and I had spotting all the time. Really happy to have it taken out.

Overall the nexplanon implant worked well for me, my painful periods stopped and I didn't need to worry about pregnancy. However side effects and long term effects weren't ever explained at the time of choosing this method. I feel like nexplanon contributed to a lot of the anxiety and depression and hormonal issues I have experienced. I am now learning what my body and mind are like without nexplanon and trying to heal myself.

You end up feeling like a women going through menopause.. I never wanted to have sex anymore and even when I used lube my vagina was still extremely dry causing me to have friction burns every week… I even got a lube launcher just so I could make sure I’m using enough and even that didn’t work.. I would still get injured. Sex then became something I was afraid I would get injured by. My sex drive fell into the toilet and I was a burden to my man

As soon as I started using this, I began bleeding and this continued almost without pause for the years I was on it, with the usual period pain and low mood. It was incredibly effective as birth control as I was incessantly bleeding, in pain and miserable so hardly able to have sex while on it. GP refused to remove it for years until a gynaecologist demanded she did as I had developed extreme vulval dermatitis due to hormonal changes. Took 4 years after removal for periods to return to normal. Having this put in is probably my biggest regret and almost destroyed my marriage.

I love my implant - i dont have to think about taking anything, it's stopped my periods, i personally have had no side effects i have noticed at all. the discomfort of the fit, removal, refit and bruising after were minimal and a very small price to pay for a contraception that i have loved. I would totally recommend it.

I only experienced two main side effects with the implant- low mood and constant spotting. If it wasn’t for these, the implant would have been amazing. When I say low mood I mean extreme depression. After just one month on it I had to start therapy which led to a 10 week cbt course, multiple psychiatrists, dropping out of school, and in general just ruining my life. As soon as I got it removed I felt a million times better. The spotting was annoying but nothing compared to the psychological side effects for me. I’m about to start the millinette pill after a year of no contraception and I’m hoping I don’t experience the same again as it is absolutely not worth it.

In many ways this is the perfect contraception for me and I've had it since 2018, now in 2022. Discreet, no need to have painful cervix insertion, works a charm, stopped my periods (irregular before so they were difficult to deal with/predict), and not too many hormones (I felt the pill made me more emotional). However the one major side effect is decreased libido and changed sensation during sex due to vaginal dryness. This is a downside for me and I am considering changing once the 3 years is up.

The first two Nexplanon implants I had were great. No periods, no pregnancy, no serious side effects. However, they were reformulated before I got my third one and it gave me increased anxiety and random crying spells and low mood which resolved after it was removed.

Was great for the first year and a half, but around the year and a half to two year mark it starting pinging inside my arm feeling like an electric shock and made me feel very sick

Really gutted with this. For the first 6months this was a DREAM. Then after 6 months I began bleeding for 6 months at a time, with a break of 1 week. I tried other pills, blood thickening tables ect but nothing resolved the issue. Eventually I had to have this removed :(
