I didn't really get on with the implant , I bled for a month at a time and still got heavy painful bleeding. I know they say it takes 8 or more months to regulate but the bleeding made me mildly anaemic and affected my daily life. On a contraception note I had no pregnancy Scares and I didn't once use a condom.
Awful removal - lots of scar tissue had formed around my implant and the nurses and doctors found it very hard to remove. The implant had ached in my arm the entire 4.5 years I had it (I couldn't have it take out as soon as it expired due to COVID-19). I didn't notice side effects until I had it removed. I've had it removed (and no other contraceptive methods aside from condoms) for 4 months now and have noticed: heavier periods with a much shorter break in between bleeds than I used to get, hair thinning and loss, gained weight, vaginal dryness, and decreased pleasure during sexual activities. I went on the Nexaplanon
I was on this contraception for just over a year, and it didn't have many bad side effects that I'd heard others give you. I knew it was the one for me because I wanted something that I didn't need to think about, and once it was in that was that. My experience however was not the best, despite not many bad side effects like nausea/mood changes/change in weight, I bled most days I was on it. Regular periods left but I consistently bled for over a year, some days heavier, some days lighter, but I was never not bleeding which was such a burden. I was told by my GP to give the bleeding a chance to calm down which could take between 6-12 months, but after this time frame was up and it hadn't changed, I was told the next step would be to put me on the combined pill as well as keeping the implant - I didn't want that and also found myself in a position where I didn't need contraception anymore, so I just took it out. All in all, had it not been for the constant bleeding, it would have been a brilliant contraception, but that was a pretty big downer on it.
Periods lasted 60 days Felt very flat - lack of emotion no big highs or lows No sex drive
When I first went onto this form of contraception I had a period for 2 months, then after that it stopped for around 6 months, then it was so irregular I couldn't track it and it was so heavy and long. It was exhausting! After having 2 rounds of the implant I decided to have it removed, and not go onto another for a while.
The first year i had the implant, it was amazing; i had no periods or any side effects. But the second year, it was awful; i had periods every other week which were heavy, super painful with awful spots associated, awful cramps and backache, headaches, very emotionally unstable, more anxious... it was not a good experience and i don’t recommend
As a contraceptive, it's good, but the side effects are too much. I will not stop bleeding, and I've had the implant for about 18 months now. It's brought on anxiety, heart palpitations when I 'should' be experiencing my period (but I'm bleeding constantly, no break), low mood, tender breasts, stomach pain. I'm hoping to have it removed soon. It has ben horrific.
I had the implant fitted in September 2020, only as I was worried about taking the pill for too long due to blood clotting. After about a month I developed terrible acne on my face and back. I was still having periods though they were lighter than normal. However, a couple of days after having my first covid vaccination I started bleeding and did not stop for 4 months. I called up my doctor's surgery where I had the implant fitted and asked for it to be removed. They talked me in to keeping it and going on the pill for 3 months to regulate my period. I did this and it seemed to settle down until about 2 months after I stopped taking the pill and then I would get periods lasted for 2 weeks, I'd stop bleeding for around a week and it would start again. Then, after contracting covid, the skin around my implant became infected and I had to take antibiotics. Once that infection cleared I then developed eczema on the site of the implant. Since having it removed, the eczema is clearing up. Also, I've put on a stone since having the implant fitted and lose no weight no matter how much I diet and exercise.
It worked well as a contraption and it was nice to not have to worry about a pill or condoms, but I was spotting for the last ten months of being on it, which meant I wasn’t in the mood for having sex as often anyway. It did stop ovulation pains, and I only had 3 periods the whole time I was on it.
I had a 6 month long period with the implant. Struggled to find a doctor to take it out of me and was extremely low / bad moods
