The Lowdown is partnering with Medicys, a research company running an online study into how safe and effective the combined pill is at preventing pregnancy in everyday life.
If you’ve just started the combined pill, or are about to, you could help build better evidence for everyone who uses it and receive £60 in vouchers for your time.
Who is eligible to take part in the study?
Medicys is looking for UK based women aged 16+ who:
- Have started certain brands of the combined pill in the last 30 days, or are about to start, and
- Have not taken the combined pill for at least two months prior to starting it.
If you’re switching from a progestogen-only method, like the mini pill, hormonal coil (intrauterine device), implant or injection, or from the vaginal ring or patch, then the gap between methods doesn’t matter.
Which brands of pill are included in the trial?
Due to regulatory reasons we can’t tell you which brands of contraceptive pill we are looking for users of, but if you fill in our pre-screening questionnaire Medicys can let you know if you fit the bill.
What does the study involve?
If accepted, you will need to sign a consent form, complete an online baseline questionnaire (taking approx 5 – 10 mins) and then a 5-min follow-up questionnaire every 6 months.
How much will I be paid and how will I receive it?
You’ll receive vouchers after each questionnaire you complete directly to your email. Your voucher will be sent directly to your email using Gift Pay, and you can see a full list of stores where you can use your vouchers here.
- Baseline questionnaire: £20
- Each follow-up questionnaire: £10 (x4 = £40)
- Additional questionnaire (if required): An extra £10
That’s at least £60 in total over two years.
How do I sign up?
Complete the short pre-screening survey below – it only takes a couple of minutes. You’ll need to sign up to the trial within 30 days of starting your pill, so don’t leave it too long.
If you look like a good fit, a member of the Medicys research team will get in touch to explain next steps, including how to join the study platform and complete your baseline questionnaire.
Your pre-screening answers are shared with Medicys and used to check whether you’re eligible for this study. Read the Medicy’s privacy notice.
