It took a while to get dosage correct. 100ug too much, 75ug not quite enough. Patches preferred to gel, although I do sometimes use gel to top up. I dont think my current symptoms are due to hrt or side effects. I did come off hrt for a few weeks at request of gynae and peri menopause symptoms returned with a vengeance.: joint pain is the worst. Headaches, itching, cramps, hair loss all improved with hrt. Still get tinnitus on occasion for no apparent reason.

Changed from combined patch due to extreme low mood when progesterone was introduced Changed from oestrogen patch to gel due to skin reaction to glue Much better on current regimen.

Positive overall. It took a few adjustments to get the right prescription for me but happy with how I am feeling now. I had to get the testosterone privately as my gp wouldn’t prescribe.

HRT does seem to have settled well. I am going to enquire on the unscheduled bleeding whilst on the progesterone tablets. Sex drive is still extremely low so will enquire on testosterone

I noticed improvement when changing from estrogen 50 to 75. I finally felt like myself again. I still have ups and downs, but at least it's just a few nights or at most a week of waking up at 3am instead of every night continuously. Frequent UTIs and vaginal dryness were resolved on estrogen 50 dose, but needed the extra 25 for major improvement in sleep and anxiety issues. Also, the natural progesterone (utrogestan) was key for me. Combined estrogen and synthetic progestin patches made my acne so much worse and did not help my sleep or anxiety much. Acne is gone with utrogestan/estrogen combo. If you have bleeding issues on the utrogestan, it should resolve in a few months if you stick with it, or you can take the mini pill continuously with HRT at the same time according to NIH guidance to stop the bleeding altogether.

Helped with lots of my symptoms, especially hot flushes, vaginal dryness and brain fog. Patches were good but changed to gel, as didn’t always stay on and ended up with grey fluff sticking all round the edge.

This regime is not complicated and does not cause a monthly bleed. I was originally happy about this but I am recently curious as to other HRT regimes and their benefits.

Unexplained to me I went on menopause at 34 and I’m now 50, as I still have a womb I was prescribed progesterone tablet to take at night and Sandrena gel sachets and told to use 2 a day on thighs. After 16yrs still the same routine and the only benefit from day one is that it stopped the hot flushes, but have lots of menopause symptoms still, I’ve asked for testosterone as have read how that may help me but my gp said that they are not allowed to prescribe to anyone. In all I feel that I’ve never been helped or guided. Menopause changed me for the worse. I’m still looking into ways of helping myself.

I started with peri-menopause symptoms aged 27. I was finally diagnosed last year at aged 31! I am so thankful for HRT, it has made me feel almost normal again which is amazing compared to how I felt those years of waiting to be diagnosed!

Terrible. None of my symptoms have disappeared, some have got worse. No real help available. Had an appointment recently with a male nurse who didn't seem to know a lot about HRT.

Initially very positive as on Evorell 50 rather than 75 but went away for a week and didn't take a patch and when I got home all menopausal symptoms came back ...hot flushes pains bleeding so got a 75 patch and have bled for 2 to 3 months .now stopped but feeling exhausted and aches and pains and sugar cravings have gone crazy. Previously brain fog was awful and that has improved significantly and confidence at work has returned.

Having struggled with early onset perimenopause and struggling with symptoms from my early 40’s, HRT has been a lifesaver for me. I had irregular menstrual cycles overnight, started getting terrible night sweats, heart palpitations, crippling fatigue, depression and anxiety, skin problems, sore and aching joints I’m the worst brain fog and concentration imaginable! I literally became a shadow of my former self, lost my confidence, doubted my intelligence and felt lost, and I had no idea why. Obviously, I was “too young” at my age for all that nonsense, wasn’t I?! It wasn’t until I started getting hot flushes and heart palpitations during the day that the penny dropped and I finally went to see my GP to ask for help. My NHS GP was extremely supportive, thankfully, as I’ve heard that quite a lot of ladies struggled to be taken seriously or patronised, especially if they didn’t fit the criteria in terms of being the right “age” for menopause. My GP arranged blood tests for thyroid, blood sugar levels, vitamin deficiencies as well as FSH levels. My oestrogen reading confirmed a diagnosis of premature ovarian insufficiency/early onset menopause. Due to my age and feeling horrendous, I requested a referral to a menopause specialist (whom I chose to see privately as I did not want to wait any longer after living half a life for over three years)! Luckily I could afford to do this and I do not take this for granted in anyway. For me, no amount of money is too much to pay when your quality of life is so poor and you’re struggling to do the most basic day-to-day things. I am now fortunate to have one of the leading consultants in the specialised field of menopause care treating me and he has over the years worked with me to find the best treatment to manage my symptoms and ensure that my transition into menopause is as comfortable as can be. Firstly, I am using the gold-standard in HRT - trans-dermal body identical preparations, made from yam extract, which is made to mimic the body’s own natural production of hormones. It is backed by science, entirely safe and helps my body find a balance to manage the sometimes debilitating symptoms of hormonal decline. In addition, replacing my oestrogen now in my fourties’ means that I’m protecting my bones from osteoporosis and heart issues into old age, so it’s a win win! As I still have periods, I take body identical progesterone to protect my uterus and regulate my cycle. I also use testosterone daily, which helps my cognitive symptoms and energy levels. In terms of genito-urinary symptoms, I use oestrogen vaginal pessaries on alternate days of the week as well as an oestrogen cream on the other days, to ensure I keep things comfortable and pain-free down below. HRT has been a lifesaver for me. I cannot begin to explain how replacing my depleted hormones with safe, tested and proven preparations has given back to me what my body has decided it can’t make in the same way as it used to. I’m putting in exactly what I used to make myself in abundance, and frankly why not! Gone are the days when women just “got on with it” and accepted menopause and the devastating and life-limiting conditions it can be. More should be done to educate everyone about this subject and more importantly, women should feel empowered and ready to take their health seriously and demand the care they deserve, especially if life is a struggle due to something that can easily be remedied. Invest in excellent female health care early will save billions for the NHS in preventative treatments before illness and health complications can take hold. Vive la revolution and Vive HRT!!

While using this treatment my dose of oestrogen was increased from 1 pump to 4 pumps because I was feeling incredibly tired, down, bloated and angry. The progesterone was kept at the same dose. I hadn’t had periods for about 7 years with this HRT I started having a regular monthly bleed. I wasn’t told this would be a side effect and it certainly wasn’t welcome. Especially given the fact that I didn’t feel any better in any of the areas I was struggling with. My GP changed me to the progesterone and eostrogel combo because the timberlone I had been taking previously was making me feel more ‘invisible’ I felt I had no purpose, quite down. I have a history of depression, for which I take medication, but I was feeling progressively more down. I had no drive for sex and felt very lethargic. I expected to feel better when the hrt was changed. Ultimately the change in my mood was better, however I felt more bloated, gained weight, brain fog and sweats started again, as well as the bleeds. Eventual, after speaking to my GP I came off HRT altogether. I still do not feel like myself, I have bouts of feeling very low and lethargic. The hair loss I suffered while taking hrt has not regrown, the weight I gained has not gone. I find that my temperature in general is hot most of the time with the odd flush thrown in. I have no desire to have sex, although I don’t suffer from dryness/itchyness. Periodically I get pains in my legs and hands. All in all I feel marginally better without hrt than I did taking it. It feels like I went through the last few years in a fog, sometimes more like a ‘pea soup’! Now it all feels misty and I accept this is just what it is for me.

My experience with HRT, I think it helps but not 100%. No reviews completed by doctors for over 18 month. So I went private to get some advice.

I was suffering from vertigo/nausea for over 6m, had various tests but nothing found. Also sleeping badly and felt "on the edge" mood wise Looked into HRT (estrogen patch + progesterone tablets) and the vertigo/nausea stopped within a couple of weeks
